Even before the U.S. release of Star Wars( Episode I: The Phantom Menace,
Antioch Publishing had already created a book accessories program that captured
the film's colorful designs. To meet its POP objective-to design an upscale, high-tech
image consistent with the Star Wars marketing campaign-Antioch selected a completely
unique way of showcasing its Star Wars product line. The display design involved the
debut of multilevel embossing on GrafXflüt, used for the header piece.
|
"No other corrugated material provides the opportunity for high-end graphics
and embossing. The combination produces dramatic results and a design
breakthrough for the POP and folding carton industries."
-- Dave Stucker, vice president sales and marketing, Innovative Packaging Corp.

"We tied all the colors together in our header graphics, which were printed directly
onto GrafXflüt. In addition, we incorporated very intricate embossing into our design
to add dimension and depth to each illustration."
-- Evelia Garcia, graphic designer illustrator, Antioch Publishing.

A kraft liner was selected for the GrafXflüt header because it easily translated to the
sand theme for many of the Star Wars scenes.

Embossing gave dimension to the faces and costumes. For example,
it defined the Queen's headdress, Anakin's blonde hair and gave a 3-D
appearance to the mechanical creatures.
|
"It was clear that the advantages of embossing were intrinsic to the success of
this display. In addition to visual impact, it gave the header the durability and
strength to assure our retail customers the display would survive a long life."
-- Garcia
